Just a bit of concept art I’ve been working on for an upcoming project! Notably, the first two pictures are based on a flooded mall in Bangkok, Thailand.
The setting I want to explore is a sort of fantasy apocalypse — aesthetically, picture the modern world post an apocalyptic event that ended the world as we would know it. Crumbling buildings, flooded malls, animals grazing beneath collapsed overpasses, and so on.
Then, add to that — fantasy. Dragons nesting in skyscrapers, a pack of werewolves gathering in an overgrown subway station — elven societies built in continent-spanning forests and dwarven mines stretching deep into the earth.
The character art is roughly what I’m picturing for our narrator, an elven woman, traveling deep in the human kingdoms when she comes across a strange human man. The way he dresses is ancient and tattered, and he speaks with an accent that doesn’t come from any language she’s heard.
Human myth has long held tales of an ancient hero that would return in the land’s direst hour. Could he be it? And if so, what does that bode?
It may be quite a while before we see any actual chapters from the story, but I do want to start working on it very soon and used this week to start building out the world and getting ideas for what I want to do with the story. We’ll probably see more character sketches later that blend a fantasy/apocalypse aesthetic as well, but I’m not super versed in what I want to go for yet.
We’re still definitely in the development stages of this project — I don’t have names for characters, places, or even the project itself.
I’ll keep you all updated as I gather more materials and get a better feel for the plot and characters. For now, that’s all from me today! Stay tuned for updates!
