Hello everyone! Unfortunately, last week completely got away from me and I blanked on this article until the last minute. In the interest of my own health and getting good rest heading into this coming week, I’ve opted to substitute the normal Monday article for some art.
I really enjoy drawing dragons in my spare time, and I love playing with colors and lighting. Put that all together and you get something like this:
For the sake of it, here’s a look at the sketch/lineart/flat color that built up to the final product:

I’m not sure if I’ll ever use this art for anything. Part of me is interested in the thought that we could see some bioluminescent aquatic-leaning dragons in The Cardinal Directive — that could be really fun! Even if it doesn’t make it into the main series, I could totally see myself writing about it for The Pounds of Flesh (Cardinal’s accompanying anthology). I’d love to explain someday what the water situation is like on Mars in my world.
For now, though, this art exists primarily for the sake of existing, and it was really fun to be able to create something with no purpose in mind except to create. I hope you all like it, even if it wasn’t your usual Monday content, and with any luck I’ll have a better handle of my next two weeks to be able to resume article content as normal.
Thank you all for checking this out!
