Everything was gone.

Faces and voices faded away to just shapes and discordant notes, blending together without form or function.

Felix. Her parents. The house. The ARNEN workers.

Everything.

All of it.

Just… gone.

When she woke up, she’d be on Thora.

Everything would be different.

Right now though, all there was, was… nothing.

It wasn’t dark or light, not cold or warm. There was no distinction between where her body ended and the world outside began.

She wondered if this was what dying was like.

But when all the world had been swept away into primordial nothingness, there was a single sensation that remained: a hand in hers, holding tightly. A small reminder that she wasn’t alone, even here.

It was Felix’s hand at first, she was sure. Now though… it was different. She couldn’t be quite sure when it had changed, but it definitely had. The hand holding hers now was smaller than Felix’s had been. It was dainty — almost birdlike in a way.

Their fingers fit together like puzzle pieces, familiar as anything could be when it was all that existed.
