“I just wish I could have stayed with her,” Felix sighed, his fingers forming the words in slow, exhausted waves.

Coming back to the apartment without Margo had been difficult, but he trusted the hospital and Dr. Callaghan’s judgment. Something was wrong, and she needed to stay put until they figured out what it was and why it was happening.

They both had a long day. He could only hope she’d gone to bed right after he’d left. The thought of her, alone in a hospital, stuck awake? It didn’t sit right with him.

Thunder rumbled outside, rain drumming against the window.

Jaime sat down next to him, passing him a warm cup of hot chocolate. She’d agreed to stay the night — they were both already in pajamas and trying to wind down after everything that had happened. Baxter was already asleep, snoring in his bed.

She sipped from her own mug before setting it down on the coffee table to respond. “Are you sure this is something new? I know you mentioned before that things were always kind of weird with her.”
