The feed resumes amongst neon-lit machines, grating music, the aggressive sounds of fake triggers being pulled, and the general chatter of harriers and dwindling families alike.

It had been several minutes now since Sebastian had lost sight of Wendy and Cassidy amidst the crowd. He could still see Jovis — she’d finally managed to get a turn at a what was basically a pistol gallery. Armed with the metal and plastic arcade firearm, she was faced with a wall of buttons that turned on and off in quick succession, testing her reaction time. Any time she fired at a button before it turned off again, the button turned green. She’d only missed a few so far.

Orion and one of Cass’s other boys (a mechanic of hers, who had only ever been referred to as Smallfry for as long as Sebastian had known him) were still nearby, having found themselves at an air hockey table not far from the dining area. Every few seconds, sharp PLINKs could be heard even above the raucous energy in the arcade.

Lycus and the man from Will’s team had moved on once again, now camping out a line of sports games— basketball hoops and bowling-lane-esque setups with soccer balls.

Hako seemed to have taken over supervising everyone. He made his rounds every few minutes, even passing by the table in the dining area once or twice. That gave him some comfort at least — the guy had a good head on his shoulders.

Sebastian checked his bracelet every now and then, watching their pooled points climb slowly but steadily.

It felt like Wendy and Cassidy had been gone for a while. Five minutes? Ten? Twenty? It was starting to grate on his nerves. He couldn’t help but pick up on the fact that the offworlder Cass had been chatting up was gone too.

Will didn’t seem to have noticed yet.
