The camera clicks and clicks again, taking the visual from the depths of Olympica to the winding halls of the Pit not far above as four familiar faces descend.
Lycus is the furthest back, occasionally swinging his flashlight behind them but always coming up empty. The only thing that has followed them is the eyes of Olympica’s cameras.
Sebastian and Alison are in the middle, Alison doing her best to shake off days of restless sleep and endless work. Sebastian holds the flashlight for both of them, calling ahead to the front of the procession at—
Jovis, her brows pinched with concern and walking with strong, purposeful steps. The beam of her flashlight stays straight ahead, never straying from its target.
“Are you sure she’s down here?”
Jovis didn’t even have to think about her answer. She sighed. “Yeah. She’s been coming down here a lot recently.”
“She told you she has?”
“Not exactly.”
“So, you followed her.”
Jovis shot a glare over her shoulder. “I wasn’t trying to be a creep, alright? I just wanted to make sure she was okay.”
In the grand scheme of things, two months was nothing. A drop in the ocean when it came to a whole life lived. The past two months, however, had lasted more than enough for one lifetime and maybe even two.
